So… therapy, huh?
A lot of people think of think of therapy as seeing the person in a suit, sitting in a stark office & getting asked repeatedly, “And how does that make you feel?”, all while they are writing on a clipboard and looking at you over their glasses.
That’s not what you will get at Voyager Counseling. If you are a teen, or a parent of a teen, get ready to think about therapy outside the stereotypical box. Games? Check. Conversation cards to help jump start tough conversations? Check. Art supplies? Check. Toys and things we can use to illustrate what we’re talking about? Check. Cozy blankets, pillows, and stuffed things to cuddle when it gets tough? Check. A therapist who will never seriously ask you, “And how does that make you feel?” Double check.
What is Client-Centered?
It is *exactly* what it sounds like. You – the client – are the center of therapy. Do you want to curl up on the couch and talk through things? We can do that. Do you want to color or draw or work on a puzzle while you process? We can do that too. The toys and games in the therapy space aren’t just for the tiny humans – you can use them too. Do you find prompts or handouts helpful? We have those too. Do you *hate* the idea of talking about your feelings? I have an option for that too! This space is about you, for you, and designed to help you feel comfortable and safe.
Extra things we can do…
Remember where I said I have an option if you hate the idea of talking about feelings? Brainspotting is an amazing technique we can use to process some of your deepest emotions, traumas, and thoughts without ever having to say a word about them. We can also use it if you are experiencing feelings but not sure why and just need help moving them through your body.
